Creating and modifying splits

Unisphere supports the management of mainframe splits.

Prerequisites

  • The storage system must have at least one FICON director configured.
  • See Roles and associated permissions to determine the user roles that can perform this task.

About this task

To create or modify a split:

Steps

  1. Select the storage system.
  2. Select Hosts > Mainframe.
  3. Click the number underneath Splits to display the Splits list view.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • To create a split, complete the following steps
      1. Click Create.
      2. Type a Split Name. The split name must be unique in the array and have a maximum of 13 characters. The split name must start with a letter, and can contain only alphanumeric, underscores (_) and hyphen (-) characters.
      3. Select PAV Type. The options are Dynamic, Hyper, and Super.
      4. Select one or more offline ports to associate with the split.
      5. Do one of the following:
        1. Click Run Now to perform the operation now.
        2. Expand Run Now and click Add to Job List to add this task to the job list, from which you can schedule or run the task at your convenience. For more information, see Schedule jobs and Preview jobs.
    • To modify a split, complete the following steps:
      1. Select an existing split.
      2. Click Modify.
      3. Modify one or more of the properties of the split. The PAV Type can be changed only in the following sequence:
        1. Dynamic <---> Hyper <---> Super
        2. If you want to change the PAV Type from Dynamic to Super, or from Super to Dynamic, you must perform the modification over two steps. First, change it to Hyper, and then to the correct value.
        3. To dissociate a port, the port must be offline.
      4. Do one of the following:
        1. Click Run Now to perform the operation now.
        2. Expand Run Now and click Add to Job List to add this task to the job list, from which you can schedule or run the task at your convenience. For more information, see Schedule jobs and Preview jobs.
    • To delete a split, complete the following steps:
      1. Select an existing split.
      2. Click An icon showing a bin symbol.
      3. Do one of the following:
        1. Click Run Now to perform the operation now.
        2. Expand Run Now and click Add to Job List to add this task to the job list, from which you can schedule or run the task at your convenience. For more information, see Schedule jobs and Preview jobs.
